Chair Talk

August 2021

Many State Employees/Retirees may have received a postcard with the below highlighted statement:

IF YOU PURCHASED OR WERE ENROLLED IN A BLUE CROSS OR BLUE SHIELD HEALTH INSURANCE OR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES PLAN BETWEEN 2008 AND 2020, A $2.67 BILLION SETTLEMENT MAY AFFECT YOUR RIGHTS.

This settlement claims that BC/BS plans violated antitrust laws by entering into an agreement not to compete with each other and to limit competition among themselves in selling health insurance and administrative services for health insurance. This is a nation-wide settlement.

STATE EMPLOYEES/RETIREES ARE NOT EXCLUDED FROM THIS SETTLEMENT.

DO NOT CALL EMPLOYEE BENEFITS OR THE OFFICE OF RETIREMENT SERVICES AS THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS ABOUT THIS SETTLEMENT!
