Chair Talk

June 2018

In the May CHAIR TALK, I forwarded some information I received from Employee Benefits regarding 0 copays for certain statins (Lovastatin, Atorvastatin and Simvastatin). Since that information went out, many retirees have still had to pay copays for these drugs. I, and other retirees, contacted Employee Benefits bringing the copay issues to their attention. Employee Benefits is working to get this issue resolved with OptumRx. I will notify SERA Chapter Presidents when the issue is resolved.

The Vision Care JEC (Joint Evaluation Committee) selected a new provider for the Vision Care Plan. The new provider is EyeMed and the effective date of the contract 8s 10/1/2018. EyeMed is the current vision care provider for the Michigan Public School Retirees. We should start receiving information in the mail starting in late summer. It is important that retirees open and read the information mailed to you about EyeMed.

A new shingles vaccine (Shingrix Vaccine) has been released for use. There should be no copay for getting this vaccine. You will need to talk to your Doctor to determine if you need this vaccine.

I am working with Employee Benefits to have an OptumRx Account Representative to attend and make a presentation to the delegates that attend the Friday, August 3, 2018 Coordinating Council meeting. I will also try to arrange an EyeMed representative to attend and make a presentation at the November 2, 2018 CC meeting.
