Chair Talk

April 2018

In late March, State Retirees received an e-mail or a letter informing them that a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was made to the Office of Retirement Services requesting information about State Retirees. The request was made by a non-profit (?) company named American Transparency. Apparently, this company believes that wages and retirement amounts paid to government (Federal, State and Local) workers/retirees should be available to tax payers. Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act allows for this information to be released. A similar request by American Transparency was made a couple years ago.

The SERA Executive Board will be discussing this issue at the April 6th meeting.
